⚡Quick answer
• HSN Code – Not applicable. HSN codes apply only to goods; Voicetree Technologies is a service-based business.
• SAC Code – Already pre-determined for Information-Technology services, printed on every invoice, and cannot be changed because it is fixed by the GST law.
When should I use this guide?
Refer to this FAQ whenever a client requests a change to the HSN or SAC code shown on their invoice so you can provide the exact, regulation-based response.
Overview
HSN (Harmonised System of Nomenclature) codes classify goods, while SAC (Services Accounting Code) numbers classify services under India’s GST regime.
HSN code (goods) vs SAC code (services)
Why the SAC code cannot be changed
The SAC code is:
• Pre-determined based on the exact IT services rendered.
• Accurately mentioned on every invoice in line with GST regulations.
• Non-changeable, because GST classification rules fix the code for the service category. Hence, no further change in the SAC code is feasible.
When does this not apply?
If a client supplies goods (not services), they would reference an HSN code; however, Voicetree Technologies delivers only services, so HSN codes are never used on our invoices.
