Can I own my Heyo Virtual Number if I decide to stop using the service?

Can I own my Heyo Virtual Number if I decide to stop using the service?

⚡Quick answer -

No. Heyo Virtual Numbers are licensed from telecom operators and remain part of Heyo’s cloud pool. They cannot be transferred, ported out, or converted to a physical SIM even if you discontinue your subscription.

Concept

What it really means in Heyo

Who controls it?

Use of a number

You can place/receive calls and texts while your Heyo subscription is active.

You (as the subscriber)

Ownership of a number

Permanent rights to move, port, or resell the number.

Telecom carrier → leased to Heyo (never to end-user)

Key takeaways:

• You use the number but do not own it.

• All virtual numbers remain the property of the underlying carrier and are managed by Heyo as part of our service inventory.

2. Why porting is impossible

  1. Cloud-only routing – Heyo numbers reside on a cloud PBX, not on a physical SIM.
  2. Regulatory model – TRAI classifies these numbers as virtual landlines tied to the issuing provider.
  3. No inter-provider hand-off – Because the numbers never exist on a SIM, carriers have no technical path to port them to another WABA or telecom service.

3. What happens if you cancel Heyo

• Immediate effect – Your access to the virtual number stops when the subscription lapses.

• Cooling-off period – After a short hold, the number returns to Heyo’s available pool.

• Possible reassignment – The same number may be issued to another customer later.

4. When this limitation does NOT impact you

If you plan to keep your Heyo subscription active, nothing changes—your virtual number will continue working for as long as your plan is in good standing.

5. Number lifecycle diagram

  1. Heyo pulls an unused number from its carrier pool.
  2. The number is assigned to your account for as long as the subscription stays active.
  3. You cancel or let the subscription expire.
  4. Heyo removes the number from your account and parks it for a brief cooling-off period.
  5. The number goes back to the pool and may later be issued to another Heyo customer.
